The next day

Jo Beale Gallery, originally uploaded by leyaevelyn.

The gallery is in a beautiful old house so the space is unusual: long and thin. To resolve it, Jo Beale has most of the paintings up on easels. It works. Like an installation. The paintings become objects.

Actually, that feeling — of the painting being solid, having a forward presence — has always been an objective of mine when working. So it fits here.

Photos of the work.

About leyaevelyn

About thirty years ago, I moved from New York City to rural Nova Scotia. For an artist, it is a good place to live. Spacious and quiet. Despite the beautiful scenery and frequently grey skies, my abstract paintings focus on color, its expressive qualities and how it creates form and space.
